Darling Range Dexter News

Autumn 2012

Time for calves is finally here again at Darling Range Dexter's.

It's the best time of year for us, 12 months since our last surprise and always something out of the blue.

This year will be bitter sweet and exciting all at once. With the last of Diggers calf’s for us as he now lives with his new family at TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN stud in Kinglake and the excitement of our first lot of calf's from Coppertop.

We have a hand full of 1st time calves and our much anticipated girls from WA will be calving as our last lot for the year.

We hope to have 1 or 2 very good red or black polled bulls on offer and will have our usual spread of steers and heifers for sale.

Planning for next year's calf's is done with the much awaited embryo’s being implanted for the first time.

One thing we have decided is that will be no more purchases of Dexter’s for our blood lines as we have a genetic back log of around 5 years at present, with 42 embryo and 50 semen straws.

We will have opened up most of our property to grazing this year with a 15 acre paddock being the only section to be put down to crop, this should give us a bit more time free from feeding out to concentrate on our show efforts for the year.

We hope to show at the Euroa [local] show and will be considering the Breed show for Dexter’s.

Happy Dextering
